Think different. Those two little words represented Steve Jobs. And Apple. Steve is gone… Respect for the man who succeeded in letting us talk about an “iPod” instead of an MP3-player. You’ve gotta admit: pretty impressive for the company!

Few companies identified themselves with their CEO. Steve Jobs was THE face of Apple. More than that. He resigned only 6 weeks before his death, but he’ll always be remembered as the pioneer of the computer industry.

But Steve also had a sense of style! Admit it: compare to Microsoft and I don’t need to say more. Even fashion designers love to work with them to design stylish covers and stuff like that. Watch & enjoy…

Think different. Die twee kleine woordjes is waar Steve Jobs voor stond. En Steve is nu niet meer. Respect voor de man die erin slaagde om ons niet meer te doen spreken over mp3-spelers, maar over een “iPod”. Doe Apple dat maar eens na.Weinig bedrijven werden zo vereenzelvigd met hun topman. Steve Jobs was hét gezicht van Apple. Hij was wel meer dan dat ook. En hij zal waarschijnlijk herinnerd worden als de pionier van de computerindustrie…

Maar die Steve, die had ook gevoel voor stijl en design. Zeg nu zelf, vergelijk eens met Microsoft? Need I say more?  Over design gesproken; zelfs designers maken graag hoesjes en dergelijke voor Apple. Kijk maar naar de foto’s…

His life philosophy was something to live up to. He was the example of the All American Dream. This is how he addressed the students of the University of Stanford in 2005:

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Hij werd geroemd om zijn innovatieve aanpak binnen het bedrijf, maar zijn levensfilosofie sprak tot de verbeelding. Ik las vandaag in de krant dat hij blijkbaar zelf ooit van school werd gegooid, nooit een diploma op zak heeft gehad en uiteindelijk zelf hét voorbeeld werd van the All American Dream. Hij maakte zijn dromen waar, en dit is wat hij ook ooit toesprak aan studenten van de universiteit in Stanford in 2005:

Niemand wil sterven. Zelfs mensen die naar de hemel willen gaan, zijn niet bereid daarvoor te sterven. En toch is de dood een bestemming die we allemaal delen. En dat is ook hoe het moet zijn, want de dood is waarschijnlijk de beste uitvinding van het leven. Het is hoe het leven veranderingen in gang zet. Het schuift het oude aan de kant en maakt plaats voor het nieuwe. Je tijd hier op aarde is beperkt. Verkwist hem dus niet door andermans leven te leiden.

He’s so right! You’ve got to believe in what you do in life, because life’s too short to waste your time on something that your heart doesn’t want to do. Gives me enough motivation to continue my blog! And writing about interior design makes me happy. So Steve, thanks for those wise words…

And thanks for your genius, without your ideas I wouldn’t type on a stylish MacBook (which are much easier than I ever thought they’d be)…

Ik moet hem gewoonweg gelijk geven. Je moet geloven in wat je doet in het leven, want het is véél te kort om je tijd te verspillen aan iets waar je hart niet ligt. Gives me enough motivation to continue my blog! Volgens mij heb ik mijn passie gevonden, en dat is alles wat rond interieur draait. Dus dank u Steve, voor die wijze woorden…

En dankuwel voor de vele geniale ideeën, want zonder jou zou ik nu niet op een stijlvolle MacBook aan het typen zijn, die trouwens véél gebruiksvriendelijker is dan ik ooit had gedacht…
