Together with her husband, daughter and fat grey tabby cat Smokee Janey lives in a neighbourhood of Toronto called Leslieville. There she has a shop in the neighbourhood, on two locations, with her husband called Telegramme Prints and Custom Framing (telegramme.ca). They sell mostly hand made, small edition prints and posters by local artists as well as from well known artists around the world (Christo, Charley Harper, Shinzi Katoh) and they also do custom framing.

She contacted me about a month ago, in December to be exact, to ask if I was interested in working with her. Because I love to spread some love for artists and small shop owners who work really hard to get noticed, I could not not talk about her Etsy shop!

The way how Janey creates all the magic? She has about a million scanned painted swatches to work with. After she does the initial drawing she figures if there are any parts that look best painted by hand. Then she works on the computer to put everything together with other pieces she pulls from painted bits she has. Scanned or new bits of old paper can be used in her work as well.

If you have gotten curious about Janey’s work: she has got her own personal illustration website which you definitely have to check out! Her most busy period is now until June, when she is proofreading books. In summer she gets back into creating her art prints and illustrations. Talking about a busy mommy. I think she’s a very talented lady!

A few days ago I found a little package in my mail from Canada. I was so excited to find her sample print (the elephants) in the package!

They’re as cute as a button!! It’s my personal favorite and actually I have to thank her for sending it to me – she’s the sweetest.
