The last days of summer are here. And it already feels like fall has arrived. Too quickly, don’t you think? I still wanted to celebrate these long summer evenings with a glass of wine, just relaxing and breathing in the warm hot air… Where did time go?
I hope September will bring us some fine evenings, with some hot days where we at least can enjoy one last lovely dinner at the beach… Like this one, featured on Style Me Pretty {styled by DM Events}.
Remember I told you I was crazy about mason jars and that I found one at a flea market in Bruges last month?
Well, here it is…shining on my mantle piece with some fresh cut flowers from our garden. I just can’t stop looking at it.
Don’t forget: you still have a chance to win a very cute garland! Enter my giveaway here.
Welcome to Lovely Etsy Finds what I hope will be a new feature on my blog! From now on I will be featuring lovely (Etsy) shops and their owners here on my blog every once in a while. I’m starting off with a very special one called Handmade at no. 9, owned by Joanne Boyland. She makes the cutest felt garlands and mobiles for nurseries and bedrooms! Take a look at her adorable creations…
Simply Fabulous Chic snagged 5 minutes with the creative girl behind the website, to ask her just a few curious questions…
Hello Joanne, could you tell us a bit more about yourself? I live with my husband in a small market town in Northamptonshire, England. I have always enjoyed being crafty! As a child, I spent many summer holidays with my Grandmother who taught me to knit, sew, croquet etc. and I’ve had the crafting bug ever since!
How did you decide to open your business Handmade at no.9? Like most crafters my house was full of the different creations that I enjoyed making. I would give them away as presents to friends and family and they were always well received. So I decided to take a deep breath, be brave and try and sell a few of them online.
Why did you choose the name Handmade at no.9? Does it have a special meaning? No. 9 is where I live and where I make all of my garlands – so the name seemed fitting!
I’m curious to hear how long you’ve been making garlands and how you started doing it. I’ve only been making the garlands since March 2012 when I opened my Etsy shop. The idea just popped into my head one day! I had a few trial runs until I found the technique and style that I was happy with.
Do you also make custom made designs?I do! I’m happy to alter any of my designs or to design a garland for specific requirements.
What is your dream for your shop on Etsy? Do you love to expand in the future? Most crafters dream of being the next Cath Kidston! But for now I am concentrating on improving my designs, the look of my shop and promoting myself (through fab blogs like yours!). A few more sales would also be nice You can always visit my Etsy shop.
So how can my readers follow you? Do you have a website or a blog where they can get more info about you? I am always happy to gain new followers! I have a blog – handmadeatno9.blogspot.co.ukwhere people can follow my new designs, updates and discount codes. And you can also find me onTwitter, PinterestandFacebook!
Well, thanks for the little talk Joanne! One last question… Do you have any advice to my female readers looking to follow their dreams and open a small shop (online)? My advice would be “go for it”! In the beginning I was nervous that my items wouldn’t sell and that my shop would not receive many views etc. but if your items are unique, well made and you use good quality materials then you have nothing to worry about.
I hope you’ll like her garlands and mobiles as much as I do! And I’m hoping moms-to-be and other sweeties will keep on reading, because I’ve got great news to share… Being the sweet girl that she is, she also donated this darling looking garland asa giveaway to one of the Simply Fabulous Chic readers!
This garland with little birdies would look absolutely adorable in a nursery room.
